Purposes - Referential Writing:

Referential, or informative, writing focuses on providing the reader with “an examination of the subject matter” (Polnac 78).  Therefore, the MESSAGE is the key focus. 

Magazines, journals, encyclopedias, textbooks, newspapers, and interviews are examples of referential writing.
