They help reduce the loss of life or property throughout the four stages of emergency management: preparedness, mitigation, response, and recovery. As a student in Austin Community College’s Emergency Management Program, you’ll learn the intricate functions of various agencies, and develop effective oral, written, and technological communication. You will design and implement your own emergency plan and evaluation tools that would be instrumental in the event of a large scale disaster. Develop, maintain, or implement business continuity and disaster recovery strategies and solutions, including risk assessments, business impact analyses, strategy selection, and documentation of business continuity and disaster recovery procedures. Plan, conduct, and debrief regular mock-disaster exercises to test the adequacy of existing plans and strategies, updating procedures and plans regularly.
