Value Statement

The Austin Community College District will not schedule Adjunct Faculty for excessive workloads.

Administrative Rule

Members of the Adjunct Faculty will have a workload that is no more than 9 credit hours and no more than 11 LEH in any single Fall or Spring semester, and no more than 6 credit hours and  no more than 6 LEH in any Summer semester, except as specified below:

1.     An “Employed Industry Specialist” will have a teaching workload of less than 15 LEH in both the Fall and Spring semesters, and may not exceed two course sections in the Summer semester. 

2.    Members of the Adjunct Faculty are exempt from these workload restrictions when the Department Chair deems it necessary to comply with the staffing needs of Early College Start classes.  Deans are responsible for monitoring departmental compliance.

Any exceptions to the workload limits must be approved in writing by the appropriate Vice President upon recommendation of a Dean.  Generally, such exceptions shall only be granted following an active recruitment of new Adjunct Faculty.  The Vice President shall provide a report to the College President on October 1 of each year of any exceptions granted during the Fall semester, March 1 of each year for any exceptions granted during the Spring Semester, and August 1 for the Summer Semester.
