TRHT Campus Center Events

Get Involved and Join the Conversation! Students, faculty, staff, and community partners are all co-creators in the Center’s learning experiences, which include workshops, film screenings, and racial healing circles. Events are held in more than a dozen locations around the region, including public libraries, public schools, community centers, city parks, and recreation facilities, and ACC campuses.


January 2023 Events

  • Monday, Jan 16, 2023
    • Honoring MLK March | 9 am- 3:30 pm - View Event Graphic
      • The Annual Community March celebrates Dr. Martin Luther King’s legacy while uplifting diversity and multiculturalism in our city. The MLK Community March kicks off with a short program at the MLK Statue on the University of Texas campus. The march continues to the south steps of the Capitol for a rally. After the Capitol program, the march will proceed to the historic Huston-Tillotson University, where the MLK Community Festival will take place.

      • Culinary Demonstration: Foods of Religion Demo and Discussion. | 12-2 pm (50 max)
        • During our Healing Through Food; A Demonstration, Tasting and Talk About the role food plays in Religion Culture, and Bringing Us Together. We will listen, learn, laugh, and taste some great food from Chef Curry and students from ACC’s very own Culinary Department! Don’t miss this opportunity to break bread as an ACC Riverbat Family!       • National Day of Racial Healing with the Art Gallery Dept | 3-5 pm
        • The Art Gallery and Truth, Racial Healing and Transformation Center are looking for some amazing art pieces for a shot at first place at $300, second place at $150, and third place at $50 Amazon card. The theme of the show and week's events is; "Truth, Racial Healing, and Transformation Begins With Me!" The show and event are a reminder that equity, justice, love, care, and respect for all individuals start with each and every one of us! A guest juror will select the artwork for display and will also choose contest prize winners. Light refreshments will be provided.

        • Join the Austin Public Library and ACC’s TRHT Center in celebration of the 2023 Day of Racial Healing. Participate in a Racial Healing Circle, designed to focus on the sharing of stories that affirm our common humanity. Registration is required. Register here.

        • Join us for an exciting Voter’s Rights panel discussion featuring Austin’s NAACP President Nelson Linder, State Representative James Talarico & Travis County Precinct One Commissioner Jeff Travilion and Bruce Elefant, Travis County Tax Assessor Collector & Voter Registrar.

        • Join us for a Racial Healing Circle- designed as an approach that brings together a diverse group of people in A safe, respectful environment. Racial Healing Circle is an experience in understanding our common humanity and learning to see ourselves in one another. Stories as a powerful tool for promoting racial healing and equity.       • Leveling White Privilege | 11-12:30 pm
        • Join us in a workshop that will discuss race and white privilege without fear, guilt, and/or shame. Participants will be guided through materials that will invite the following impact:
          • Deeper knowledge of the physical manifestations of whiteness;
          • Develop the ability to hold space to discuss race-based trauma;
          • The tools to guide and exist in spaces with people of the global majority without causing harm based on the artificial constructs of race;
          • Deepen their personal and communal relationships.

      • CommuniTEA & Conversation | 5:30-7 p.m.

        • In this session, participants will have an opportunity to come together and engage in yoga practice for stress reduction. This session will be led by Persian-speaking, Iranian American therapist Geeti Shirazi Mahajan.

      • Lunar New Year Listening Session & Conversation | 11 a.m. 

        • The ACC Asian American and Pacific Islander Cultural Center, Officer of Diversity, Equity & Inclusion, and theTRHT host a listening session at the ACC Flex Studio @ ACC Highland, Building 2000 (Room 2.1420). The event and conversation are aimed at supporting AAPI Riverbats and others with ties to Asian communities and offers a space to come together, build community, learn about the Lunar New Year (including its significance and meaning), and process the recent tragedy that unfolded at a Lunar New Year celebration in California. The event will include cultural teas and refreshments and facilitated dialogue. An ACC counselor also will be available for additional guidance and support. The event is free & open to the public. Space is limited. Please register early to reserve a seat.

    • CommuniTEA & Conversation | 5:30-7 p.m.
      • In this session, Iranian poet Roja Chamankar will conduct a reading and poetry workshop for those in attendance.
