Climate Survey

Austin Community College District’s Office of Institutional Research and Analytics administers a climate survey every two to three years to provide insights into employee opinions and satisfaction in the college. In 2020, a survey was conducted between February 7 and March 6 with all 6,879 full- and part-time employees invited to participate.

Key Insights

  • 29 percent of employees responded, an increase from the 2017 survey.
  • Employees are deeply committed to students and the institution.
  • Employees understand their roles and have a strong sense of pride in the college.
  • The college must make improvements in key areas, such as communication within and across units, top-down and bottom-up; transparent decision-making with opportunities for input; clarity around police and procedures with rationale for changes; and a culture that fosters respect and caring.

Message from the Chancellor

Dear Faculty and Staff,

Through the COVID-19 pandemic, Austin Community College has demonstrated the value of collaboration, connection, and caring. Our faculty, staff, and administrators have worked together like never before to overcome challenges and develop innovative solutions to ensure all students succeed. Because of your work, our students are thriving. I want you to know that the college is also committed to your success.

Our employees deserve a place where everyone feels appreciated, supported, and respected. The college’s Employee Climate Survey is an important tool to identify strengths and areas for improvement. This survey shows there is a lot of work to be done to improve communications, engagement, and resources.

I have seen the incredible dedication you have for our students. It is my promise that we will work together to build a successful work environment. The work is already underway.
