Many of Austin Community College's programs and services will be on display for prospective and current students during ACC Fest 2019 happening 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., Saturday, November 9, at ACC Highland, Building 4000.
What started five years ago as an event for high school students to learn more about ACC has grown to include demonstrations, interactive activities, and tours. Current ACC students who are still exploring their career options are also encouraged to attend for an opportunity to meet with faculty and ask questions.
This year's event will feature tours of the ACC Fashion Incubator and the Jewelry department, as well as a virtual reality simulator by the Arts, Digital Media & Communications Area of Study.
"The students get really excited, and even I geek out at everything we have to offer. I learn something new about us every time," says Trish Welch, Career Resources director. "It's not just about spotlighting our programs, but showcasing the holistic ACC college experience for a student. So, we try to cover everything."
More than 1,000 potential students and their families attended ACC Fest 2018.
"Our programs help supply the workforce for a broad array of industries with excellent family wage earning opportunities. Our challenge is making sure our community is aware of our many programs and these exciting career prospects," says Brandon Whatley, Design, Manufacturing, Construction, & Applied Technologies dean. " ACC Fest provides us with an opportunity to get in front of prospective students, their parents, and most importantly the community at large."
