NVK3L EXAMPLE 2

Use Newton's Version of Kepler's Third Law to find the mass of the Moon.

STEP 1

The data from the book:

  • M1 = MEarth = 5.97 X 1027 grams
  • M2 = MMoon = ?
  • P = 27.3 days (note this is different from the length of the month!)
  • A = 384, 000 kilometers
