Google Apps at ACC

What is Google Apps at ACC?

Google Apps at ACC is ACC's installation of Google Apps for Education, a suite of online software applications that Google offers to educational institutions and non-profit organizations. The suite includes Gmail (ACCmail), Web-based word processing, spreadsheet and presentation programs, sharable calendars, chat, and more.  ACCmail allows you to take advantage of Google’s tools while maintaining an @g.austincc.edu domain name.

Who gets Google Apps at ACC?

All new students will receive a Google Apps ACCmail account within 24 hours of becoming “ready to register” for classes.

 

All former students will receive a Google Apps ACCmail account within 24 hours of enrolling in a class at ACC.

How do I access my ACC Google Apps (ACCmail) account?

To access your ACCmail account, please log in to ACC Online Services.  From the Student or Continuing Education Menus, click on ACCmail. Here you will find your ACCmail user name, your initial password and a link to activate your new ACCmail account.

Which browsers can I use with Google Apps at ACC?

Google recommends that you use Internet Explorer 7 or Firefox 2 in order to access the latest Google features. For more information on the web browsers that Google supports, see the Google website.

Note: Using Safari to access your Google Apps at ACC account will create minor issues. For example, when you log into your ACCmail account, you won't see the Quick Contacts (chat) box in the left sidebar. If you have a Mac, using the latest version of Firefox will allow you to see the Quick Contacts box in the left sidebar of Google Apps Gmail pages. This display issue only affects Google Apps for Education accounts and not standard Gmail accounts. Google releases features for its commercial Gmail system before it releases features for Google Apps for Education. Google does not provide a list of the different features available in standard accounts and Google Apps for Education.

How do I change my password?

The first time you log in, you will be required to change your password.  PLEASE DO NOT FORGET YOUR NEW PASSWORD

After your initial login, to change your ACCmail password, please go to Changing Your Password

I can’t remember my ACCmail password

·         Make sure you are typing in your username correctly, in lowercase

·         Make sure you are typing your password exactly as you created it (case sensitive)

·         Go to ACCmail Password Reset to reset your password.  You will be required to provide your ACCeID and password.

·         Don’t know your ACCeID and password?  Your password will be easy to change through the ACCeID Manager.

Why can't I log into my account through the Google site?

Google Apps at ACC is ACC's installation of the Google Apps for Education software suite, which Google offers to educational institutions and non-profit organizations. Because of account customization and security requirements, users must log in through ACC’s domain

Why doesn’t my Google Apps at ACC account have the same applications as my personal Gmail account?

Your Google Apps at ACC account is part of a software suite called Google Apps for Education, which Google offers to educational institutions and non-profit organizations. Google decides which services to include in the Google Apps for Education software suite.

What if I want to use a Google program that is not offered through Google Apps at ACC?

If you wish to use a Google program that is not included in Google Apps at ACC, you can use a personal Gmail account. If you do not have a personal Gmail account, you can sign up for one at www.google.com.

What will my ACCmail email address be?

To discover your ACCmail address, please log in to ACC Online Services. From the Student Menu, click on ACCmail. Here you will find your ACCmail user name, your initial password and a link  to activate your new ACCmail account.

Do I have to use my ACCmail account at ACC?

Yes, actively enrolled students are required to use their ACCmail account while communicating with ACC instructors and ACC staff.

If you don't wish to use the, ACCmail powered by Google, web client to read your email, you can configure other email clients to do so.

NOTE:
Be sure to use your full email address (username@g.austincc.edu) when setting up the POP or  IMAP configuration, and clear the captcha for your Google Apps account.

NOTE:  You'll need to use your ACCmail password to use POP or IMAP. If you have not already set your ACCmail password, you can do so by browsing to Set ACCmail Password.  You will have to authenticate yourself by using your ACCeID and password first.  Then you will be able to set or change your ACCmail password.

I'm concerned about spam, malware, and spyware. Who will be able to email me at my ACCmail email address?

With the Google Apps Education edition, you get Gmail's proprietary Spam and virus filtering. For more information, please navigate to 'http://mail.google.com/mail/help/fightspam/spamexplained.html'.

Who can I email using my ACCmail address?

There are no restrictions to whom you can send email.

Can I use other email programs to access my ACCmail?

Yes. You can access your ACCmail account using POP, IMAP, and mobile email programs. See the links below for more information. When configuring your email program, write your username in the following format: username@g.austincc.edu and use your ACCmail password.

How long do I get to keep my ACCmail email address?

Your ACCmail account is yours to keep for as long as you want it.

Is there a limit to the number of recipients I can send to?

In an effort to fight spam and prevent abuse, Google will temporarily disable your account if:

·         You send a message to more than 2000 recipients.

NOTE: If you use a POP or IMAP client (Microsoft Outlook or Apple Mail, e.g.), you may only send a message to 100 people at a time.

·         You send a large number of undeliverable messages

 

Your account should be re-enabled within 24 hours.

What is the maximum message size I can send?

You can send and receive messages up to 20 megabytes (MB) in size, including attachments. Incoming messages over 20 MB will be returned to the sender without being delivered to you.

I'm a student but also a staff member. Do I get an ACCmail email address?

Yes.  All actively enrolled students will receive an ACCmail email account.

How do I share documents with students or others who have Google Apps at ACC accounts?

 

What can I do with Google Apps Docs?

You can share documents, spreadsheets and presentations with anyone who has an ACCmail or Gmail account by listing the person’s ACCmail or Gmail address in the Share-This-Document screen. If you enter an email address of someone without an ACCmail or Gmail account in the Share-This-Document screen, that person will receive an invitation to create a Gmail account.

If you enter an @austincc.edu email address for someone who does not have a Google Apps at ACC (ACCmail) account, that person will receive an error message when attempting to view the message.

Can I use a different, personal, email address at ACC?

NO, students will NOT be able to add supplemental email addresses.
