ACC Board of Trustees September 9 Recap

The Austin Community College District (ACC) Board of Trustees met for its regularly scheduled meeting on Monday, September 9, 2019. Notable topics discussed include an update on the search for a director of ACC's Truth, Racial Healing & Transformation Campus Center; an interim executive director named for the ACC Foundation; and a lease agreement with YMCA Austin.

First public tax rate hearing
Prior to the regular meeting, the board held a 15-minute special meeting on the proposed 2020 tax rate to hear public testimony. The meeting serves as the first public hearing on the rate. A second public hearing was held Thursday, September 12. The board will vote on the tax rate at its September 16 meeting.

Truth, Racial Healing & Transformation Center update
The college received more than 100 applications for the Truth, Racial Healing & Transformation Campus Center director position. The first round of interviews are underway. The hiring committee — comprised of college and community representatives — is expected to announce its decision by the end of the semester.

Curtiss Stevens named interim executive director of ACC Foundation
Following Stephanie Dempsey's retirement in August, Curtiss Stevens has been named interim executive director of the ACC Foundation while the college conducts a nationwide search for a permanent Chief Development Officer. Stevens has served as executive director of ACC ACCelerators since 2016.

YMCA to lease office space at HBC
The board voted to move forward with an agreement allowing the YMCA of Austin to lease office space at Highland Business Center late next year. Under the agreement, the YMCA will pay $20 annually per-rentable-square-foot for 10 years, with an optional 10-year renewal. Trustee Nicole Eversmann requested an ongoing assessment of the agreement.
