Month-in-Review: September 2020

Hispanic Heritage Month kick-off events
ACC kicked off Hispanic Heritage Month with two events on September 15.

International Festival 2020 was a daylong, virtual event that featured a film screening, musical performances, instructional dance videos, interviews with community members and national and international guests, exploration of ACC programs, and more. The festival was presented by Liberal Arts, Humanities & Communications and Arts and Digital Media and will continue to be available for viewing at https://intfest.acclahc.org.

The Abriendo Puertas/Opening Doors online celebration featured a speech by the Consul for Economic and Social Affairs Jose Murillo Valencia, a presentation by Dr. Rogelio Saenz from UT-San Antonio on "How COVID-19 is Devastating Latinx Communities," dance performances by Roy Lozano Ballet Folklorico, and musical performances by UT-Austin Mariachi Paredes and the Tiarra Girls. The event was hosted by ASCENDER and Student Life.

Exciting things are happening at Highland!
Highland Campus Phase 2 hit some milestones this past month. To commemorate the progress, ACC hosted two virtual events this month. Watch the lighting of the Fontaine Plaza park here and take a sneak peek inside Highland Phase 2 here.

Fall 2020 Campus Conversation
ACC hosted the fall 2020 Campus Conversation virtually on September 3. Chancellor Dr. Richard Rhodes discussed how the college is building a culture of collaboration, connection, and caring; the results of the climate survey; this past year's accomplishments; and introduced ACC's 2020-21 priorities. Fast-Track Careers Launch
In an effort to get more Central Texans to work, ACC launched a tuition discount program for 12 fast-track programs in the highest-demand sectors in the region, including health care, IT, and skilled trades. The program offers a 50 percent discount in these eligible programs. It will run through the end of the year. Learn more here.
