First ACC IMPACT Lab company develops sensing drone for severe weather

Austin Community College District (ACC) welcomes the first company to its manufacturing incubator, the ACC IMPACT Lab

What: Meet Zpryme’s Director of Engineering Technology, Sam Kodo. Kodo was named to the 2020 Top 50 Influential People in West Africa, ranked in Forbes top 30 under 30 in Africa, and top 5 Africans changing the world.

Under Kodo’s leadership, Zpryme is creating an advanced sensing drone to reduce the impact of a severe weather event. 

This advanced commercial sensing drone offers enhanced camera technology is expected to help reduce and better predict the impacts of severe weather events. The drone's key parts and design will be custom-designed, fabricated primarily with 3D printing, assembled, and tested in ACC’s lab.

Located on the ACC Highland Campus (6101 Highland Campus Drive), the IMPACT Lab is an advanced manufacturing business incubator and training lab. The 5,000 square-foot facility is Austin’s first innovation center focused on physical product development and manufacturing.

For students, ACC’s IMPACT Lab offers real-world learning experiences for students enrolled in ACC's advanced manufacturing programs and is home to the college's Advanced Manufacturing Academy — a high school dual credit program. 

For businesses, the lab provides specialized manufacturing facilities for start-up companies to develop prototypes and products.

IMPACT lab is funded by a grant from the National Economic Development Administration’s Regional Innovation Strategies as well as local matching dollars from ATI, Autodesk, City of Austin, and Amazon Web Services.
