Apply Now for a Scholarship this Fall: Why students say it’s worth it!

There is still time to get cash for college. Scholarship season is here, and students who submit an application by Sunday, May 1, get priority consideration for fall scholarships.

Scholarships are the closest thing students can get to free money. They don’t need to be paid back, and students can use the money to help cover all types of expenses including tuition and fees, housing, food, and other living expenses.

We asked Riverbats to tell us how their scholarship made a difference:

Ebonie T., ACC Public & Social Services Student: “I've been out of school for over 15 years, so I wanted to further my education in order to help those that we serve in other areas of their life. With scholarships and financial aid, I'm able to focus on what I'm learning. Financial assistance allows me to take 2-3 classes per semester which allows me the opportunity to graduate sooner.”

Dustin B., ACC Civil Specialization Student: “It’s nice to know that there are people out there making scholarships possible. I applied to help not only with tuition but also with technology requirements for my degree. Getting a scholarship took the pressure off having to work on top of going to school. It’s accessible, and ACC provides plenty of people to help you.”

Luis L., ACC Electronics Technician Student: “I was depressed because I thought that I wouldn’t be able to afford my college degree and that I had no opportunities. When I found ACC’s Career Scholars program, I thought it was my golden ticket. I’m pretty sure that there are a lot of very smart people out there that are waiting for their opportunity to shine and grow. I’m an immigrant, and I thought this kind of opportunity just happens to citizens and is extremely hard to find. I was wrong. I found a new passion thanks to this program.”

The ACC Foundation makes it easy to find money for college. The Foundation offers just one General Scholarship Application so students don’t have to search for the best option. Instead, they complete the single application and submit it along with a short, personal statement. Afterward, ACC’s in-house experts review all applications to match students with a scholarship that meets their unique needs. Students may schedule an appointment with an ACC specialist for 1-on-1 application assistance.

The average award for students at ACC is $2,500. ACC Foundation Scholarships are not just for straight-A students or recent graduates. There are scholarships for longtime workers, students of Hispanic heritage, women, nursing majors, welders, and many more. Everyone is encouraged to apply.
