Office of Equal Opportunity Compliance

Purpose

The Office of Equal Opportunity Compliance supports a safe, accessible, and inclusive environment for students and employees. A high value on interpersonal relationships is at the forefront while ensuring freedom from discrimination, harassment, and retaliation. Employees are supported in resolving workplace concerns to foster a sustainable environment as valued stakeholders with the power to affect outcomes.

Mission

The Office is committed to ensuring equal opportunity through proactive outreach, education, and resolution. Guidance, resources, and a policy framework reinforce the effective resolution of concerns.

Prohibition of Discrimination & Harassment The Office responds to concerns regarding unlawful discrimination, harassment and retaliation, by collaborating with District-wide partners to ensure that students and employees enjoy a safe environment that is free from discriminatory actions based on any protected characteristic. Equally important, an emphasis is placed on identifying and connecting individuals with resources they may need in order to fully engage in the learning and educational environment.
Employee Relations The Employee Relations Officer (ERO) within the Equal Opportunity Compliance Office coordinates with employees and supervisors to provide a fair, equitable, and timely process to address formal grievances. The informal resolution of employee concerns are encouraged, with a focus on maintaining a productive work environment. Matters involving reports of bullying, workplace culture, and communication will be addressed by the ERO with the highest level of review and scrutiny to more comprehensively serve the ACC community.

Education & Outreach Programs

In an effort to continuously enrich resources and to better inform our education efforts, the Office analyzes report data each year. The 2021-2022 Annual Report provides information and insight into data relevant to cases received by the Office related to discrimination, harassment, and employee relations reported to the College.

Data within the report gives staff a better perspective on the needs of those that we support. The Equal Opportunity Resource Guide and ACC IS HERE FOR YOU: Notice of Victim Rights and Options are the two main publications that staff use to provide individuals with guidance and resources. Both publications are updated annually to remain current with ACC specific data trends.

Informational programs regarding ACC’s sexual misconduct policy can be tailored to meet the needs and interests of audiences across the District. The Equal Opportunity Compliance Office is eager to partner with interested students, faculty and staff to empower our community at ACC through education.
