Electronic Tablet Operations
aka PenPal

The Electronic Tablet, also known as the PenPal, comes with an electronic pen. When used together, they control the instructor, student and document stand cameras at both the local and remote sites, the audio levels from remote site, and the electronic pen can be used as a mouse in the tablet's mouse pad area.

The tablet is also used to turn the tablet on, place a call to another site, and terminate the call. Aside from controlling the cameras in the room, the Pen Pal selects the image that will be viewed at both sites.

The Pen Pal performs the same functions as those found on the AppsView buttons that appear on the VTEL PC monitor's screen.


Performing AppsView operations

The electronic pen can be used:

Pressing tablet buttons

Use the electronic tablet's pen to press an AppsView button on the tablet.
To select a tablet button, place the pen on the button and press once.

Using the electronic pen as a mouse

Use the tablet's pen as a mouse in the tablet mouse pad area to perform Apps View or other Windows applicable operations.
(The AppsView Toolbars need to visible on the screen. Click on the VTEL icon on the lower right hand side of the screen.)

To select an AppsView tool bar button or option, move the pen in the tablet's mouse pad area until the cursor on the screen is on the button or option, then press once.

To perform a Windows function that requires a double-click, move the pen in the tablet's mouse pad area until the cursor on the screen is on the option or icon, then use one of these methods:

  • Press the pen once to select the option or icon, then press the application's OK button or other appropriate button.
  • Hold the pen firmly in place while you quickly press twice.

For a Windows right mouse button click move the pen lightly in the tablet's mouse pad area until the cursor on the screen is located in the desired location.
Click the button on the barrel of the pen without pressing down on the the pen.
(Do not press down on the pen)


Using Tablet Overlays

The Electronic Tablet, or Pen Pal, comes with a tablet overlay. TC2 Overlay is a full featured overlay for use with single and dual monitor systems. This overlay will be used for classroom instruction.

Colors on the overlays indicate operational groupings as follows:

Blue

Remote operations

Green

Local send operations

Yellow

Local view and picture in picture (PIP) operations

Orange

Calling and hanging up operations

Tablet On
Turns on tablet

Audio - from remote site
- lowers volume
+ raises volume
mutes audio

Remote Cameras - Selection
1 - Remote class camera
2 - Remote instructor camera
3 - Document Stand camera
4 - Not Connected
Tape - VHS VCR

PIP ("Picture-In-Picture")
On/Off - turns the PIP window off or on
Swap - swaps the PIP window with the main window and vice versa

Local Camera - Selection
1 - Local class camera
2 - Local instructor camera
3 - Document stand camera
4 - Not Connected
Tape - VHS VCR
PC - Local VTEL PC Monitor
"No" Camera - Video Mute

View - When the PC is selected as signal to be sent:
PC - displays the PC screen such as a Windows application.
Pen Pal Screen - displays the Pen Pal screen.

Remote / Graphics / Local
Selects source:remote video / PC graphics / local video
that the VCR will record to video tape.

Slides - For slides created with the Apps View Tools
Print - slide / presentation
Save - slide / presentation
Send - slide / presentation
Prev / Next - slide / presentation


Note: Each time the overlay is changed or the AppsView is restarted, press the Tablet On button to load the new overlay.
