Announcements -- Recognitions
- Voter Registration: it is important that
everyone register to vote for the May election tax referendum. Stacey
Thompson is a voter registration deputy.
- Adjunct faculty received a memo about e-staffing for
the fall, please read and follow the dates to enter the system
- New faculty must order regalia for graduation
- Cathy Smith is on medical leave for the remainder of
the semester. Dolores will take over her assistant department chair
duties for the remainder of the semester
NADE Update: Certificates were distributed to
all faculty that helped with the Conference. The NADE conference was
extremely successful. thanks to everyone for their contributions and hard
work.
Legislative Update: A new House Bill was
introduced to eliminate TASP. Faculty should follow the HB 796 if they are
interested in the legislative bill.
Developmental Plan Update: Sibyl Noack
forwarded the plan to Donetta Goodall with the changes and corrections. We
will wait for the revised version from Donetta Goodall's office.
Developmental Plan Responsibilities and Duties: Dolores
distributed a list of duties and responsibilities for updating the developmental
plan.
CCE/CCA Coordinators / Assistant Department Chairs:
Because of the new guidelines for release time, it is possible that some faculty
members may not be able to continue as CCE/CCA coordinators. No one is
allowed to have double assignments. Dolores will monitor the situation and
advise faculty if they are affected.
Issue: How the Developmental Communications
Department wants the advisors / counselors to handle developmental credits when
students transfer to ACC. (This issue needs task force approval due to
revisions). The state TASP rules say it is up to the institutions to
decide. The Assessment and Advising Committee is asking for guidance from
our group.
- Caryn Newburger advised the group that the statement
that we passed in January needed to be amended. A new version was
revised and passed on March 21, 2003. Caryn Newburger will take the
revised version to the next Assessment and Advising Committee.
Committee Reports
- Writing: Laura Ore reported that the
Writing Committee met in March and approved the E-Write pilot proposal.
Caryn Newburger will be in charge of the project. At the present time,
the writing committee is declaring a moratorium on paired courses because of
the cut in sections.
- Reading: Dolores reported that the
reading committee is planning some faculty development workshops for fall,
2003 and the writing faculty will be invited to attend since the topics will
be helpful to all the Department members. Faculty need to send their
end of semester reports to Dolores as soon as the semester ends.
- Adjunct Hiring: Frank Cronin
reported that he would check if there were a need for more adjunct faculty
to staff the fall semester, interview would resume in the summer.
- Assessment / Advising: Caryn Newburger
reported on the new pilot program for E-Write and the revised language for
developmental students transferring from another institution.
- Textbooks/ Budget: Mary Leonard reported
that due to the budget cuts our money in supplies and equipment under
$500.00 was reduced. If you have any urgent requests, please let Mary
know as soon as possible.
Department Chair elections are scheduled for April
2003. Guidelines will be sent to the departments by the EVP

Meetings:
- Our fall meeting will be August 22, 2003 at Riverside
from 3:30 pm to 5:00 pm
- Reading and Writing will meet at RVS from 1:00 pm to
3:00 pm (rooms TBA)
