Electronic Infusion Devices (EID)

In emergency rooms and inpatient facilities, intravenous fluids and intermittent IV medications must be administered with precision. Healthcare providers use electronic pumps also known as electronic infusion devices or EIDs to manage IV therapy. These devices deliver intravenous fluids and intermittent IV medications in a controlled manner.

Safety Alert: Although more precise, electronic pumps are not a failsafe method of IV administration. The healthcare provider is responsible for monitoring the equipment and the client's response to therapy. The healthcare provider must accurately program the electronic IV pump according to the physician's orders.
