How to Prepare for UNIT Exams

The following advice assumes that you have read (See How to Read Effectively section of syllabus) the four chapters assigned for the Unit and successfully completed the MyEconLab Chapter Homework Assignments and Quizzes for each of the chapters in the Unit.

Learning Objectives and Unit Exam Questions

The questions on each Unit Exam are directly tied to Learning Objectives. I have created I have listed the learning objectives for each exam HERE. They are also listed on the course’s ACC Blackboard site. As an example, I will use the Learning Objectives for the exam over UNIT I. Follow this route to find them: click on Course Content in the left navigation bar → UNIT I → Detailed Learning Objectives for Exam 1.

You will note that the Learning Objectives for each exam are numbered from 1 to 40. The questions on the Unit Exam are tied directly to the same numbered Learning Objective. As such, it would be important for you to know how to answer each learning objective if you want to do well on the exam. Here is how to find those answers:
The learning objectives were created from the list at the beginning of each chapter of the textbook. There are 4 or 5 listed at the beginning of each chapter. I broke these learning objectives down further so that there would be ten learning objectives for each chapter.
As it turned out, each learning objective actually correlated with a section or subsection of those chapters. And the list of ten objectives for each chapter followed exactly the outline of each chapter from beginning to end. That being the case, I would recommend you take the objectives for each chapter and look through the chapter for answers to each objective. I believe they will be fairly easy to find.

Read the Chapters Again

Quickly review your reading of the chapters in each Unit again. You can do this by reading:
1. the Introduction to each chapter;
2. the first paragraph of each section and subsection of the chapter;
3. the first sentence of all the other paragraphs in the chapter;
4. the Summary at the end of the chapter.

View Suggested Videos

I spent some time searching for appropriate videos on YouTube that hopefully will help you understand the content of the assigned chapters better. It is true that I could not find as many for the chapters at the end of the course as for the earlier chapters. Using Chapter 1 as an example, here is the way to find them: click on Course Content in the left navigation bar → UNIT I → Chapter 1 → Videos.
The Khan Academy videos are straight forward lectures, but I like Marginal Revolution University videos the best if they are available.

Review

First, review the questions on the MyEconLab Homework Assignments and Chapter Quizzes for each chapter in a UNIT, especially the ones that you answered incorrectly. The correct answers will be given on the graded assignments, and I encourage you to use the Help Me Solve This link in the lower left panel of window showing the question if you need help understanding how to figure out what how the correct answer was found. Unfortunately, now all questions have the “Help Me Solve” this link available. I created a short video on YouTube showing how to get there-- https://youtu.be/up9fKjjEsZQ, though Pearson has moved the Help Me Solve this link from the upper right of the pop up screen to the lower left.

Second, review previous attempts on the Unit Exam if you have already attempted it once or twice. Here is the way you can do so using the Unit I Exam as an example: click on My Grades in the left navigation bar → click on the title to the exam, i.e., Exam 1. From here you can choose which attempt you want to review.
