The College Work-Study Program provides eligible ACC students with the opportunity to work part-time in a community service position or a field related to their area of study. Work-study employees work up to 19 hours per week, receive a semi-monthly paycheck, and are paid $15.60 to $16.10 per hour depending on their position.
The work-study program is available for the 2021-2022 school year. Work-study employees have options to work in-person, remotely, or in a hybrid setting (combination of in-person & remote work).
Please note that work-study is limited and based on eligibility determined by the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). If you have not been offered work-study for the 2021-2022 school year, you can add your name to the work-study waitlist here.
To be eligible for work-study: You must show financial need on the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) and meet additional requirements and guidelines (listed below). Work-study is also limited, so it is best to apply early.
- Student Eligibility Requirements
- Complete the financial aid application process and demonstrate need based on federal guidelines.
- Enroll in a minimum of six college credits in any term in which you occupy a work-study position.
- Meet Financial Aid Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP) standards each semester.
- If awarded, pass a Criminal History Background Check and submit Human Resources paperwork.
- If hired, abide by the Work-Study Employee Guidelines (listed below).
- Work-study Employee Guidelines
- Once hired, students are ACC employees. They are expected to earn their award by performing job specific duties and abiding by the following guidelines:
- Students must remain enrolled in at least 6 credits on their declared degree plan. If their enrollment drops below half-time (6 credits), they are no longer eligible for work-study and must stop working immediately.
- Students cannot start working until they have a timesheet on e-time.
- Students cannot start working until at least one of their classes has started for the semester.
- Students cannot work more than the hours per week determined by the Financial Aid Office on their Interview Sheet (up 19 hours per week).
- Students cannot work during scheduled class time.
- Students must have a reasonable gap between class and work hours to allow them to arrive on time.
- Students cannot work while school is not in session (e.g. intersession or college closure days due to holidays or the weather).
- Eligibility for Non-Citizens and Undocumented Students
- Non-citizens and undocumented students with Texas residency may follow these instructions to apply for state grants and work-study. You must also have authorization to legally work in the United States through the DACA program.
Part 1: Steps to Apply for Work-Study
- Step 1: Complete the Financial Aid Application Steps
- This includes submitting a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (StudentAid.gov) and turning in any missing documents listed on Self-Service. On the FAFSA, say “Yes” to the question asking if you are interested in work-study.
- Step 2: Accept Your Awards
- Accept (or reject) your financial aid awards on Self-Service. If you received a work-study offer, accept your award and continue to Part 2.
If you did not receive a work-study offer, you may add your name to the online waitlist below. Please note that funds are limited and based on eligibility, so adding your name to the waitlist does not guarantee you will receive a work-study offer. You can only add your name once per school year.

Part 2: Steps to Secure a Work-Study Job
- Step 1: Complete a Criminal History Background Check
- All work-study employees must complete an annual criminal history background check. After you accept your work-study award, you will receive an email from Austin Community College inviting you to complete an online background check. If possible, we encourage you to complete the online background check before the orientation.
- Step 2: Attend a Virtual Work-Study Orientation
- If you are a new employee, the Work-Study/Outreach Coordinator will contact you to set up virtual orientation. This orientation will cover the eligibility requirements and guidelines for work-study as well as necessary documents needed to start working. - Step 3: Interview for a Position
Review the work-study job board, identify 2 - 3 positions that interest you, and contact the Work-Study/Outreach Coordinator at firstname.lastname@example.org to begin the interview process.
Returning and new employees will also be required to complete an Interview Form before each new school year and summer session.
NOTE: You are expected to remain in your position for one full semester. If you must resign before the semester ends, notify your supervisor and the Financial Aid Office as soon as possible.
- Step 4: Submit Employment Paperwork
- Submit your employment paperwork, including proof of eligibility to work in the United States, to the Work-Study/Outreach Coordinator at email@example.com.
- Step 5: Start Working
- The Work-Study/Outreach Coordinator will notify you and your supervisor with the official start date of your position. You cannot start working until your employment paperwork is processed and you have an online timesheet on etime.
ACC offers a variety of on-campus and off-campus positions that pay between $15.00 - $15.50 per hour. While each position has different job duties, they each require the following required skills:

- Effective interpersonal skills.
- Ability to exercise tact and discretion.
Example Off-Campus Positions: America Reads and America Counts are programs that provide reading and mathematics tutorial services to elementary school children at various school sites. You must have college proficiency in reading and writing or mathematics to participate in this program. Positions are off-campus, and personal transportation required.
