Student Advocacy Center

ACC’s Student Advocacy Center provides case management, financial assistance, and community referrals to eligible students who meet income guidelines in order to remove barriers to success and help students complete their education. Join us for the second annual Spring Egg and Candy Hunt event hosted by the Student Advocacy Center! RSVP now for one of our regional egg hunts on March 29th or April 1st. Kids will enjoy hunting for eggs filled with candy and toys.

Cypress Campus: Friday, March 29th, from 9-11. Outside in the courtyard.
Eastview Campus: Friday, March 29th, from 1-3. Outside in the Courtyard between Bldg 2000-3000.
Hays Campus: Monday, April 1st, from 12-2. Outside Patio (check in inside to sign in and be directed to the event).

Are you eligible?

The Student Advocacy Center supports the most economically disadvantaged students, here are some basic guidelines for eligibility:

  • You have applied for financial aid, by completing the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) or Texas Application for State Financial Aid (TASFA) and through the Department of Education process it has been determined that your Estimated Family Contribution (EFC) is less than 1500.
  • Alternate Income Verification can be done using the Federal Poverty Guidelines (FPG). Students who make 150% or less of the current year’s FPG are eligible for the Student Advocacy Center.

Services & assistance

Child Care Scholarship

The child care scholarship is a semesterly, financial assistance program that allows ACC to assist with a student’s monthly child care costs. The student can use the child care provider of their choice and if eligible, ACC pays the child care provider directly each month through invoicing to assist with child care costs.

Textbook Scholarship

The textbook scholarship program is a semesterly, financial assistance program in which ACC purchases physical textbooks for eligible students. The amount of the award corresponds with the number of credit hours you are taking.

Textbook Loan Program

The Student Advocacy Center maintains a collection of textbooks for students to borrow and gives priority to students receiving assistance. Other students may request a loan after the first week of classes. See information and a list of textbooks.

Foster Care Alumni

Any student that has aged out of foster care or is adopted can receive case management, academic advising, guidance, and be connected to local and national, supporting organizations through the Student Advocacy Center.

SNAP Assistance

The Student Advocacy Center can help any ACC student connect with Texas Health and Human Services to see if they qualify for SNAP, WIC, Medicaid, etc.

Events

The Student Advocacy Center hosts various events throughout the year such as the Giving Tree program, ACC Free Thrifting Events, and outreach. Please see upcoming events here.

When to apply

Applications are accepted year-round on a first-come, first-served basis. Financial awards are limited to available funds.

Follow these steps

For childcare and/or textbook assistance please submit an application. Applications are accepted year round and need to be submitted every new semester.

Check ACCmail regularly for notices of current or upcoming awards.
