How to search for books and articles on a particular subject

 

Let’s say you are researching a particular topic, like “Puritans” or “Jamestown”.  You are looking for books and articles on the topic.  Here’s one way to do it:

 

To find ARTICLES in periodicals:

  • Go to the ACC Library Services Webpage, http://library.austincc.edu/
  • Click on “Find Articles & Research Information”.
  • Click on “History, Government & Social Sciences”.
  • Click on “History Resource Center: US” OR “History Resource Center: World”.
  • Type in your subject “such as “Puritans” or “Jamestown”. Then click on SEARCH.
  • On the RESULTS page, you will see 4 TABS across the top.  Click on “Periodicals”.

 

To find BOOKS on your topic at ACC libraries:

  • Go to the ACC Library Services Webpage, http://library.austincc.edu/
  • Click on “Find Books, Course Reviews & Videos”.
  • At top of page, select “General Subject” from the pull-down menu.
  • In the blank space next to the pull-down menu, type your subject (such as “Puritans”).
  • In the next pull-down menu, select “View Entire Collection”. Clcik on SEARCH.
  • The results pages will give you several books on your topic.

 

You can also search for BOOKS at OTHER libraries.  Go to http://library.austincc.edu/eresources/OtherLibs.htm
