Summer 2009 Courses for Kids

Students will learn how to use computers, how to navigate in Windows environment, how to use the keyboard and mouse, how to create simple documents, and much more. The classes are open to kids of all ages.
Prerequisites for all courses: All students and a parent/guardian must schedule an appointment with the coordinator for program orientation at least 2 weeks before the first day of the class. Call 223-7588.

All classes run three days: Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday from 9 am to 12 pm unless noted otherwise.
- Basic Computer Skills and Keyboarding for Kids - June 9, 10, 11, 2009; 9 hrs, $95.00
- Hands-on training for kids who have no or little computer experience will help them to gain confidence and firm foundation in using computers. Topics include basic keyboarding skills, basic file management and navigation in Windows environment; programs such as Notepad, WordPad, Paint, Calculator as well as basics of accessing and navigating in the Internet and fundamentals of Internet safety. Prerequisites: Approval of the coordinator required.
- Word Processing Skills for Better Looking School Papers - June 16, 17, 18, 2009; 9 hrs, $ 95.00
- Hands-on introductory course covers creating, editing and printing text documents such as flyers and invitations, school papers, letters, essays. The course includes spell checking, copying and pasting, formatting text and inserting pictures. Prerequisites: Basic Computer Skills and Keyboarding for Kids or equivalent experience. Approval of the coordinator required. Note: If you want to work on your own document bring typed text on USB drive to the first class.
- PowerPoint and Presentation Skills to Impress Your Teacher and Friends - June 23, 24, 25, 2009; 9 hrs, $95.00
- Hands-on course introduces kids to presentation software great for class projects. Covers creating slides with text and graphics, sounds, animations and movie clips. Students will have an opportunity to present their project to the class. Prerequisites: Basic Computer Skills and Keyboarding for Kids or equivalent experience. Approval of the coordinator required. Note: If you want to work on your own document bring ideas, typed text and pictures on USB drive to the first class.
- Illustrator Quick Start - July 28, 29, 30, 2009; 9 hrs, $95.00. This class meets on afternoons 1 pm - 4 pm.
- In this hands-on workshop, students will learn how to create and edit vector graphics using the pen tool in Adobe Illustrator. Students will use a combination of Bezier curves to produce camera ready art work using concept sketches as a template from Squirrel Works-Coz Effect characters. Once completed, students can submit the finished artwork to be displayed in the Squirrel Works FAN ART Archive where the students' art can be honored. Prerequisites: Basic Computer Skills and Keyboarding for Kids course or equivalent knowledge. Approval of the coordinator required.
