Admission Requirements for Transfer Students

  • Completed application with $60.00 application fee
  • Official transcripts from all institutions attended
  • High School transcript
  • Essay
  • Resume listing employment, extracurricular activities, community involvement, etc.
  • Minimum 2.7/4.0 GPA on all transferable coursework


Applicants with fewer than 30 transferable hours must meet the requirements for first-year applicants, i.e. submit SAT or ACT scores and at least one recommendation letter in addition to the above requirements.

Transfer Credit Information

Applicants must have completed College Algebra or a high school sequence, within the past three years, of Algebra I, Algebra II, and Plane Geometry to be considered for admission.

While an applicant may come into SMU with more than 62 transferable credit hours, the student must still complete a minimum of 60 hours at SMU to be considered eligible for an SMU degree.

Grading

  • SMU calculates each applicant’s transfer GPA and transfer hours
  • A grade of C- or higher must be achieved in order for course credit to be given.
