Orientation
Orientation is online only (there is no in-person orientation meeting
for this course). You are, however, welcome to come to my office hours
to meet me. If that isn't convenient, send me an email message to discuss
when we might meet or what else I might do to help you get started.
In order to make sure that everyone is familiar with the basic things
they need to know as they start this course, you need to fill out and
submit some orientation forms online. (Don't worry, they aren't all that
long...) Please pay careful attention to the deadlines mentioned here
for these forms. If you don't submit them in time, you may be dropped
from the course.
Please submit the following forms:
- Before you buy your course materials (textbook, etc.), read
through the Course Policies (pages 1
and 2) and look over the course Schedule
and any Handouts. Also, you need to work through the Prerequisite Study Sheet for College Algebra pretest on your own, check your answers (they are provided) so that you can tell me how many you answered correctly on the orientation form. (This is important; if you can't answer 12 or more correctly, you need to contact me right away so we can discuss your preparation for this course and your placement, preferably before you buy the textbook.) Then submit the Orientation
Form, Part 1. This asks some questions to make sure you have some
of the more crucial bits of information you will need to get started.
Deadline: The first day of class. (If you register after that,
you must submit this form within one day of registering.)
- After you have completed the first quiz (Quiz 1-A) (see the information
about Working in MyMathLab and the course schedule for details), please
submit the Orientation Form, Part
2. This asks some questions to make sure you have made a good start
in the course.
Deadline: The end of the first week of class. (If you register
really late in the first week of classes, you must submit this form
by the middle of the second week of class.)
