BUSG 2371 - Statistics can really help you make decisions in business.  I am very good at explaining these complicated concepts so please consider taking the course.  It transfers to UT & Texas State for their business degrees.

I use Excel's stat applications in the course.  This saves you money.  Minitab costs $50 but most people in business use Excel anyway.

Some things to know about using Excel's Data Analysis & Megastat statistical programs:

Enable the Analysis Toolpak ( so you can use "Data Analysis"). The Data Analysis Toolpak
is not installed with the standard Excel setup.  For excel 2003:
   1. Look in the Tools menu and click on "Add-ins."
   2. Click on the box "Analysis Toolpak" to enable the program to work (not the one with VBA).
Now, when you go back to Excel & click on Tools, "Data Analysis" will appear and you can do the
homework. If you do not have a Toolpak item, you will need to install the Data Analysis tools.
Search Help for "Data Analysis Tools" for instructions and load it from your Microsoft Office CD.

Enable MegaStat - The MegaStat statistical program for Excel is not installed with the standard
Excel setup.
   1. Copy the Megastat program onto your hard drive & double click on it (it is available
from Blackboard under Course Documents. The wizard will lead through how to install it.
   2. Once that is done, open Excel & look in the Tools menu in Excel under "Add-ins". Click on the
box "MegaStat to enable the program to work. Now when you go back to Excel , "MegaStat" will
appear along the toolbar and you can do the homework. If this does not appear to work, close
Excel & re-open it & try again. Note for Excel 2007 users: if you have Excel 2007, just keep
trying to install Megastat even though it may tell you it is not installing.
I think it works ,
eventually, as long as you ignore their warnings!

Dialog Boxes
Choose Tools/Data Analysis, and select the kind of analysis you want to do. The typical dialog
box will have the following items:
Input Range: Type the upper left and lower right corner cells (or just use your mouse to
highlight the data). (e.g. A1:B100). You can only choose adjacent rows and columns. Unless
there is a checkbox for grouping data by rows or columns (and there is not), all the data is
considered as one group.
Labels - There is sometimes a box you can check off to indicate that the first row of your
sheet contains labels. If you have labels in the first row, check this box, and your output MAY
be labeled with your label. Then again, it may not.
Output location - New Sheet is the default. Or, type in the cell address of the upper left
corner of where you want to place the output in the current sheet.
