International Admission Steps

International students planning to attend Austin Community College must submit a complete application to the International Student Office by the application deadlines (incomplete applications will NOT be accepted for processing).

Complete these steps, based on your visa type or program of interest

1. Required documents

Submit all the documents required for your visa type or program of interest. 

What type of international student am I?

F-1 new student: I live outside the United States and want to attend ACC for a degree or certicate.

 F-1 transfer student: I am an F-1 student in the United States, and I want to transfer to ACC.

F-1 co-enrollment: I am an F-1 visa student with an unexpired I-20 and intend to take ACC classes while remaining full-time status at another college or university.

F-2 dependent: I am the child or spouse of an F-1 visa student.

Other visa types: I lawfully reside in the United States as a temporary worker, diplomat, exchange visitor, or other immigrant type.

Submit original documents only. We cannot accept faxed, scanned, or photocopied versions of documents unless indicated in the document instructions. 

Note: Make sure the name on your application matches the name as it appears on your passport. Please notify us if it is different than how it appears on your transcript.

Once we receive your required documents, we will notify you via email to submit the ACC online application. Allow at least 2 weeks for processing documents.

2. English proficiency test

The language of instruction at ACC is English. If English is not your native language, you must submit official scores on a language proficiency exam. Instructions and exemptions.

3. First step

The First Step online orientation prepares you for the application process and gives essential information about attending ACC.


4. Application & fee

Once ACC receives your required documents, the International Student Office notifies you via email to submit the ACC online application. Allow 2 weeks for processing documents. You will be notified by email if you are accepted to ACC.

If you do not have a U.S. Social Security number: The International Student Office assigns you an alternate number via email after processing your required documents. Use this number in place of a Social Security number when completing the online application.


Pay application fee

The $100 non-refundable application fee can be paid online or by mail. Include your Social Security number or ACC-assigned alternate number.

5. I-20/F1 visa

Complete the I-20 process if you are accepted to ACC and seeking the F-1 visa for the first time or changing your status to the F-1 visa. Skip this this step if you already have a valid F-1 visa.

You also must submit these additional documents before you can continue to the Area of Study Information Session and register for classes.

7. Arrival & orientation

You should plan ot arrive in Austin and check in at the International Student Office by the following dates. Bring the following documents with you:

You must attend the international student orientation. Register to attend.

8. Area of Study Information Session

You will attend an Area of Study Information Session after you turn in all required documents and met college readiness/TSI requirements.

This session is mandatory if you have fewer than 12 college credits. Students with 12 or more college credits can attend an Area of Study Information Session or meet with an advisor in your area of study to review transcripts and TSI status. Plan your classes by viewing the area of study program information.

9. Registration

Plan, register, and pay:

Your final application step is to plan your classes for the upcoming semester, then register and pay online by the posted deadlines. See registration information.
