Welcome to the Inaugural Season of Carnival ah!
A 3-day outdoor carnival of free public events and academic/artistic offerings of live music, dance, drama and performance art, as well as a student art sale, literary readings, philosophy and humanities discussions, open mic sessions, and full-on film festival including a nightime outdoor film screening on 12th st.
Visitors also will have opportunities to discover their artist within - master classes, workshops, are scheduled in creative writing, dance, music, film, theater, and humanities.
Carnival ah! invites Austin’s many community arts programs and schools to the Rio Grande Campus to meet each other and the Austin public and to showcase their programs and work.
The mission of ah! is to inspire, encourage, and support existing and new academic and artistic collaboration among the seven individual departments of the Arts and Humanities Division (Art, Creative Writing, Dance, Drama, English for Speakers of Other Languages, Foreign Languages, Philosophy, Humanities, & Religion), with other creative departments in the college and the Austin Community.
Each year, the Arts and Humanities Programs and Carnival ah! will focus on three themes. For the 2008 – 2009 season, the themes are Identity, Voice, and Dissent.
