Manage information that improves lives
A complete and well-organized patient health record is crucial in providing appropriate treatments as quickly as possible. In Austin Community College’s Health Information Technology Program, you’ll learn how to analyze medical records, assign codes to diagnoses and procedures, and translate descriptions of illnesses, injuries, and procedures into alphanumeric designations required by insurance companies. Upon program completion, students will be qualified to work in a variety of healthcare settings.
As the medical field continues to transfer information from antiquated paper filing systems to a sophisticated patient database, health information technology skills are in high demand. As a health information technologist you’ll review health charts for completion and accuracy and generate reports that are crucial for proper diagnoses, accurate insurance claims, and successful patient care.
