Human services professionals change people’s lives for the better
Austin Community College’s Human Services Program provides the knowledge and practical skills needed for entry-level employment in hospitals, mental health centers, social service agencies, substance abuse counseling sites, and gerontology centers. Through internship opportunities you will build professional networks as you gain experience in real-world settings.
Graduates go to work in a variety of settings, including social service organizations, health departments, schools, and homeless shelters. Tracks are offered in addictions counseling, Deaf services, general human services, and therapeutic recreation.
Assist individuals and communities to adopt healthy behaviors. Conduct outreach for medical personnel or health organizations to implement programs in the community that promote, maintain, and improve individual and community health. May provide information on available resources, provide social support and informal counseling, advocate for individuals and community health needs, and provide services such as first aid and blood pressure screening. May collect data to help identify community health needs.
