Few grantors accept applications at any time. Most Requests for Proposals (RFPs) specify a deadline date when the grantor must have the completed proposal in hand in order for the application to be considered. Some agencies request that a preliminary proposal be first submitted, with a full proposal developed only on subsequent invitation.
Yes, you are welcome to complete your application on your own. Grant Development & Compliance must still process the completed application and obtain administrative approval, so please contact us as soon as you decide to apply for a grant. The college requires that all applications are processed through the Grant Development & Compliance Department to ensure cooperation, rather than competition, between campuses and centers for grant dollars, as well as to make sure the Restricted Accounting Department has approved the budget.
The length of time between submittal and notification varies. Some agencies take six months or longer to decide which applications will be funded.
The project's budget and reports are managed by the Grant Accounting Department, which is separate from Grant Development & Compliance.

In determining if a grant should be pursued the following questions should be asked: Does the opportunity align with ACC's strategic plan? Is there a need for the project? Is there a fit with staff and/or faculty expertise? Are the funds to be awarded sufficient to cover the project? Would the outcomes of doing the project be worth the investment? Does ACC have the capacity to sustain the initiative? The Grant Development & Compliance Department will guide you through determining if a project will be pursued.

All letters of support, including those that are being sent in support of others colleges or agencies, must be submitted to Grant Development & Compliance first. After being approved by Grant Development & Compliance, letters of support will be approved and signed by the College President or his authorized signature authority. No one but the College President, Richard M. Rhodes, Ph.D., or his authorized signature authority, is permitted to submit letters of support on behalf of ACC.
There is usually a time delay before receiving news from the funding source about the approval or disapproval of the grant. Activities included in the grant application may be negotiated prior to contracting. Contracts need to be signed prior to any work being done. Once contracted, a meeting will be held to review the implementation plan and work can begin. The Grants Compliance Officer provides support as needed and the Restricted Accounting staff will manage financial activities. Periodic reports are usually required to the fund source concerning the results of the grant.
