Help keep healthcare professionals and patients organized and provide appropriate medical treatment by studying health information technology. You’ll learn to analyze medical records, assign codes, and process medical information required by insurance companies. This program offers an associate degree to prepare you to enter the workforce.
The Health Information Technology Program at Austin Community College is a special admissions program with limited availability. Students preparing for the program should select "General Studies in Pre-Health Sciences" as their major on the application. Because requirements may change, consult the program website to confirm current requirements. Admission to the college does not guarantee entrance into a particular course or program of study.

Duties include reviewing insurance applications to ensure that all questions have been answered, compiling data on insurance policy changes, changing policy records to conform to insured party's specifications, compiling data on lapsed insurance policies to determine automatic reinstatement according to company policies, canceling insurance policies as requested by agents, and verifying the accuracy of insurance company records.

Compile, process, and maintain medical records of hospital and clinic patients in a manner consistent with medical, administrative, ethical, legal, and regulatory requirements of the health care system.
