Admission Steps

Your ACC journey begins here.

We’re thrilled that you’ve chosen to take the next step in your educational journey by enrolling at Austin Community College. To make the process as simple as possible, the admission process is divided into four basic steps, below. Different steps may apply, so be sure to check our Types of Student guide to see which path is right for you.

1. First Step

Tip! Submit the FAFSA to be considered for financial aid. This is an optional step but highly recommended.

2. Application

Complete the application:

Submit the admissions application to start ACC's enrollment process.

Confirmation of completed application:

An enrollment advisor will notify you when your application requirements are complete and you are ready to begin Step #3. Contact the College Destination Center any time you have questions about your application.

Activate your ACC online tools:

Set up your ACCeID, ACCmail, and Online Services accounts. Allow 24 hours for your application to be processed.

3. Area of Study Information Session

Do you have fewer than 12 credits?

Sign up for an Area of Study Information Session to learn about program and career options and be cleared to register for classes. The session is required for students with fewer than 12 college credits.

12 or more credits? 

You have several options for your next step.

  • Attend an Area of Study Information Session to learn more about your selected path at ACC.
  • Make an appointment to meet with an Area of Study advisor at any campus to review transcripts and plan your courses.
  • Meet with faculty program advisors.
  • Continue to Step 4 if you are comfortable with choosing your courses according to your degree plan for your first semester at ACC.

4. Registration

Your final step is to plan your classes for the upcoming semester, then register and pay online by the posted deadlines.  See registration information to plan and register for classes.

Don't forget!

Financial Aid: From your online Self-Service page, you can view your financial aid status and accept or reject your award offers. If your financial aid award is not sufficient to cover tuition and fees, you must pay the difference or set up a payment plan prior to the next payment deadline. You will be dropped from your classes if you fail to pay any balance owed on your account.

You can only receive financial aid for courses that are on your declared major/degree plan. There are some exceptions: 30 credits of developmental classes and prerequisites for courses on your degree plan are paid by financial aid.

ACC Student ID: Obtain your free ACC Student ID card in person at any campus Admissions & Records Office at least one business day after registering for classes. Bring an official photo ID for identification. You can use your ID card to access on-campus services and receive local discounts.

Transportation & Parking: Visit the parking website order your parking permits and apply for green car and carpool tags — and find a carpool partner. Parking permits are valid for a full academic year, September 1 through August 31. ACC waives the parking permit fee for disabled veterans who own a vehicle with a state-issued license plate designation of "disabled veteran."

You also may purchase an ACC Green Pass, which allows unlimited rides on Capital Metro for a semester. Cost is $25, available for purchase at Campus Cashier Office. You must show proof of registration and payment.
