Dr. Missi Patterson, Full-Time Faculty Senate President and Psychology Professor, was elected to the Texas Community College Teachers Association (TCCTA) Executive Council. She will be serving as Treasurer for 2020-21.

Austin Community College District (ACC) Board of Trustees Secretary Nora DeHoyos Comstock was recognized at Zonta International Women's Day Brunch. She was honored with the Adela S. Vento Community Engagement and Service Award at the event.

ACC Geology adjunct professors Kusali Gamage and Leslie Davis co-authored an article in April’s issue of the national geoscience education news magazine, In the Trenches. Gamage and Davis were principal investigators for a National Science Foundation (NSF)-funded project which integrated research experience into introductory Earth science (GEOL 1301) and oceanography (GEOL 1445) courses at ACC. The magazine, published quarterly by the National Association of Geoscience Teachers, also features ACC Geology students on the cover. Professors Davis and Gamage launched a new NSF-funded research project which includes ACC students in a citizen-science investigation of the effects of Hurricane Harvey on Port Aransas-area residents.

More than 20 ACC advisors attended the 2020 Texas Academic Advising Network (TEXAAN) Conference at the end of February. Jana McCarthy, Area of Study master advising specialist; Patricia Phea, master advising specialist at Cypress Creek Campus; Hilda Gartzke, Student Affairs training coordinator; and Diana Hernandez-Quinonez, advising supervisor at South Austin Campus, presented this year. Phea won TEXAAN Advisor of the Year and Kathy James, Advising director, officially took over at the end to take the torch of host next year, when the conference comes to Austin.
