These digital texts are uploaded to your Blackboard account for use on the first day of class, so you can get started on assignments faster.

How to Become a First Day Student
- Find a First Day class in the Student Planning class schedule.
- Add the class to your schedule (login required) in Student Planning.
- Register in Student Planning when you’re eligible.
- Pay for the class.
- Class materials will be available on the first day of class through Blackboard.
Benefits of Digital Books
First Day class materials are digital versions of physical textbooks that may include additional educational resources such as workbooks, problem sets, and tutorials. Digital textbooks have features that include highlighting, annotation, search functions, and multimedia links. All First Day materials are easy to access through Blackboard.
How to Access Your Materials
- Sign into Blackboard.
- Click your First Day class.
- Go to the Course Content menu.
- Click the module or link to your digital materials. You will be directed to the publisher’s site, where you will be automatically signed in or prompted to create an account.
- View First Day information.
- Access your materials as instructed.
Opt Out Available
The First Day Book charges opt-out refund request period begins on the course start date and ends on the census date for every semester.
This only applies if you have already paid for your First Day Book charges or already have a payment plan in place. Requests to opt-out or to cancel your opt-out must be submitted by 5 p.m. on the census date for the semester or additional session. Refunds will be issued 15 days after the last day to opt-out.
To opt-out of the First Day book fee submit your request through your course’s site via Blackboard.
Opting out will result in not having access to your course materials in Blackboard, which could result in a higher cost to you and a delay in obtaining course materials.

What is First Day?
First Day is a program where the cost of digital course materials is included with your class fees for a particular class or program.
You receive digital versions of the physical textbook that may include additional educational resources such as workbooks, problem sets, tutorials, video, simulations and interactive software. Digital textbooks have many features that allow you to interact with your class content like never before. Standard features include highlighting, annotation, search functions, and multimedia links. All First Day materials are easy to access through our Blackboard learning management system.
What if I want a physical copy of the textbook?
Most publishers give you the option of purchasing a loose-leaf copy of the book through the campus bookstore for an additional fee. How do I access First Day class materials?
The fee for the digital course materials is automatically added to the tuition and fees you pay for the class. This fee applies only to First Day classes. It is applied each time you register for a First Day class, including if a class is repeated.
How do I pay for my First Day class?
You will access your digital course materials through Blackboard as soon as the professor opens the class. You also can access the digital course material directly from the publisher’s website. First-time users will need to create an account with the publisher providing the class material. Please ensure your pop-up blocker is disabled within your browser during use.

If you have registered for a First Day course and your professor has already opened the class in Blackboard, you can access your digital course materials through Blackboard.
If you are having trouble accessing digital course materials outside of Blackboard, or after your course has ended, please direct any concerns or questions to the Barnes & Noble College Customer Care team by:
