ACC Celebrates Round Rock Campus Groundbreaking February 5 | 10:30 am | Campus site

One skydiver and 400 guests helped the Austin Community College District dedicate the future home of more than 11,000 college students at a groundbreaking ceremony Thursday morning in Round Rock. Read more.

On May 10, Round Rock voters approved annexation into the Austin Community College District. With annexation, ACC will build a new campus in Round Rock, scheduled to open in the fall of 2010. This site will be regularly updated to keep you informed about the status and progress of the new campus. Some information is available now with more to come, so check back often.

Round Rock Campus Update

Plans for the new Round Rock Campus were presented to the Austin Community College Board of Trustees during a regular meeting held September 2, 2008. The campus, located just south of University Boulevard, will accommodate 5,000 students in the first phase.

Phase I of the project includes five buildings, with more than 250,000 square feet.

“We are very pleased with the initial plans,” said Nan McRaven, board of trustee chair. “I think the citizens of Round Rock will be very proud of the new campus.”

Groundbreaking will be scheduled for early next year, and ACC plans to offer classes there in fall 2010. Once all phases are complete, the campus will accommodate more than 10,000 students.

“The new campus allows us to more fully meet the higher education and training needs of Round Rock,’ said Dr. Stephen B. Kinslow, president of ACC. “Students there will experience a shift from limited programs to comprehensive programs and services at the campus.”

Phase I will include the following buildings and programs:

  1. Health Sciences: Three-story building with classrooms, science labs, and offices for health sciences, mathematics, and science programs.
  2. General Studies: Serve as the student activity center. It includes a student commons, bookstore, food services, and learning and testing centers as well as faculty offices and classrooms. Continuing education courses will also be offered here.
  3. Library: Location of student services, campus administration, and the library. This building is centrally located to allow visitors to easily find it upon their arrival.
  4. Applied Technology: Classrooms, labs, and offices for automotive, welding, and building construction programs.
  5. Central Utility Plant: Housing campus maintenance and the central heating and cooling plant.

The Round Rock Campus located on more than 84 acres adjacent to County Road 112. It is adjacent to planned residential developments to the west, commercial developments to the north and south, and the new Texas State University Round Rock campus to the east. Its proximity to Seton Medical Center Williamson and Scott & White Hospital makes the site ideal for the health sciences curriculum.

The ACC Board of Trustees will host a forum in February 2009 to unveil the complete campus plans to the public.
